Creeping buttercup (ranunculus repens) is very common, but very pretty. It spreads rapidly using horizontal stems (stolons) such that a single plant can grow into a five foot square patch in a single year – choking out other plants as it spreads.
Like most species of buttercup, it is poisonous. But you, your pets and wild animals are unlikely to suffer, because it has a very bitter taste which would make you spit it out quickly. If it is cut with meadow grass and dried for hay, the poison is destroyed. So, the horses of Milton are also safe.
